Outskirts Terrace

This characterful rear extension in Kingston, Surrey, no longer served the family due to segregated nature of scattered rooms, with no real focal point of coming together. With series of Reception and Living Rooms and a walk-through Dining Room, the existing layout did not suit the aspirations of the Client to have very distinct spaces for cooking and eating together; a quiet office space and a formal Reception Room. Studio Elle re-worked the Ground Floor layout to maximise all existing space - splitting the existing Hallway into reception area and storage. Existing arrangement of rooms has been re-arranged, with new, urgently needed ancillary spaces introduced next to the Kitchen extension - providing a Utility Room and a Pantry for a seamless, clutter-free space. Designing outside/inside connection at the outset allowed to achieve a beautiful garden patio ready for alfresco dining.

Project issues: no Utility Room, no pantry, too much unused corridor space; no connection to the garden

Our solutions: very small rear extension to introduce large sliding doors and allow natural light. Practical Utility Room introduced next to the Kitchen with direct access to the Garden and the Front of house; a storage Pantry has been introduced to minimise clutter.
