Micro Home
This now airy and modern 34sqm micro-home refurbishment and remodel in Sutton, Surrey illustrates just how much value, space and character can be added to the smallest of spaces. To achieve and exceed the expectations of the Client, studio elle had to dig deep into the tips and tricks of high-end residential projects of the past to create creative solutions to many small-scale and humble budget problems. The property has not been renovated since the 80’s and lacked basic amenities such as a fridge or a washing machine. The key considerations for the Client were to maximise the ‘sense’ of space; storage; create an elegant and contemporary background for her life and to work within the tight first-time buyer budget.
Project issues: incredibly small space; smallest of budgets
Our solutions: making bespoke furniture items to suit smallest of spaces out of leftover material (and minimise costs); retaining existing layout of incoming services (plumbing, electrical) to avoid costly relocations; getting creative with layout and application of off-the-shelf materials such as tiles to maximise impact on small budget; hand-sourcing finishing touches to re-create high-end project feel
