Country Cottage

This beautiful original Cottage nestled in the Surrey Hills near Dorking was in need of some additional space to accommodate a growing family. Situated within the Green Belt and an AONB, the design had to demonstrate exemplary sophistication to warrant an approval. Careful examination of the existing Cottage and thorough design development ensured a sympathetic, yet contemporary extension to the Cottage which provided the additional bedroom, bathroom and open-plan living space for the Client, whilst retaining original charm of the historic surroundings.

Project issues: Not enough bedrooms to accommodate new family, no family space for eating/cooking together, Green Belt and Area of Outstanding Beauty Planning restrictions

Our solutions: new gable wall extension to echo the original cottage wall to create a new Master Bedroom and Bathroom upstairs, sympathetic glazed extension to house open plan Kitchen/Dining Room to bring the family together; opting for small design features to ensure new extension is subservient and in-keeping with original Cottage to ensure compliance with stringent Planning policies; collaborating with a trusted local Planning Consultant to maximise design capacity whilst ensuring a successful Planning Application
